2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Spy Shots (Pictures)
We came across these pictures of what appears to be a significantly restyled 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe on Gencoupe, a fan site devoted to the sporty two-door Hyundai. Apparently taken in a warehouse or other shipping facility (maybe even a ship), the grainy photos show off a complete redesign of the Coupe’s nose, and a more subtle redesign of the rear end as well. Most prominent are the larger headlights and fog lights, air-intake hood scoops. and a redesigned grille. representing a departure from the current generation’s more subdued styling.
Hyundai seems to be wooing traditional American pony lovers, giving the Genesis Coupe a more aggressive look. The redesigned grille incorporates the new, hexagonal shape that we’ve seen on newer Hyundais such as the Elantra and Accent, but with a blacked-out center bumper section. Undoubtedly meant to capture some of the aggressiveness of cars like the Mitsubishi Evo, Nissan GT-R and Dodge Charger SRT-8, it comes across looking a little more like the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, not exactly a performance icon.
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is similar in size to the Ford Mustang, and while the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder lacks punch, the 3.8-liter V-6 can deliver 306 horsepower and a fun ride. The 2013 Genesis Coupe should have a more powerful V-6, possibly the revised 333-hp V-6 that debuted in the Genesis Sedan earlier this year. It’s always possible—however unlikely—that Hyundai may put its V-8 engine under the hood. The 5.0-liter version puts out an imposing 429 horsepower, something that would give the Korean sport coupe enough grunt to compete against American muscle cars.
